129 Days to go...
Our wedding is in 129 days. And Troy, my fiancé, left earlier this week to live in a different city -- to be precise, a different state -- for a work assignment for the next three to six months. And where does that leave me? In the house by myself with Coco, my fearless kitty and sidekick, and the only living creature to hear my ramblings on a daily basis. This is the first time I've ever lived alone, and after three years of living with Troy, to say this is an adjustment is an understatement. So how have I chosen to deal with my new found loneliness/independence? By finalizing our wedding plans and blogging about it, of course.
Let me start by saying that I have a paralyzing fear of robbers. I know I sound like a child, but ever since I was young, I have been scared that a strange man will come into the house in the middle of the night and begin rummaging through my belongings. I never babysat in high school; I never stayed at my parents house alone overnight; I even used to make a fake "body" out of stuffed animals in the bed next to me just in case an intruder did come into my room.
So... you can see my dilemma and how staying alone in our small rental house on a dark street five nights a week can cause some anxiety.
I'd say these first three nights I've done pretty well. Of course I've been waking up at 2:30, then 4 and finally 5 a.m. because I've heard noises (I keep telling myself it's just Coco). I'm sure our electric bill will skyrocket from keeping a few lights -- and the TV -- on all night. But hey, it's all in the name of adjustment.
Only two more nights until Troy comes home for his first weekend. Needless to say I can't wait. Not just because I miss him, but I'm in need of a good night's sleep, too.
welcome to the blogging world! to combat your nighttime fears, grab a baseball bat, golf club etc. etc., and place it directly next to your bed. you will be surprised how much better you feel :)
ReplyDeleteI share this fear and really don't like the idea of ghosts at night either! This fear got especially bad when I was reading Twilight and kept waking up thinking Edward was looking at me!
ReplyDeleteI found that in addition to the kitty, a sound machine helped me a lot! I also got a nightlight and found out that almost all robberies happen in the daytime while you're at work! If none of this helps try a nice large glass of wine and maybe some sleeping pills before bed ;) You can always call me if you're scared I'm an hour behind and unemployed so I'm awake late.
i think i'm gonna like this blog :) sorry to hear you have to deal with it though. i'd say get a noise machine. once you get used that that noise, it'll help block out the others!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestions! I will have to make a stop to good old Target this weekend :)
ReplyDeleteOh little...I know how this goes! Last summer Nick worked every night from Friday thru Monday and wouldn't get home until 2:30 3 am from his second job. So, I never saw him, came home to an empty apartment and then had to get used to trying to go to bed on my own. I guess I had better get used to it..if he ever gets a flying job he's going to be gone several days a week. Call me if you get lonely...!!
